How to Use the Binaural Beats, Isochronic Tones & EMDR Generator: A Complete Guide

Welcome to your advanced sound laboratory. Our generator has been completely redesigned to give you unprecedented control over your mental state. With the new Session Builder and Sticky Player, you can now craft complex, multi-layered soundscapes that guide you through deep meditation, intense focus, or restful sleep.

Interface Overview

The interface consists of three key components designed for flexibility and ease of use:

  1. Main Controls: Where you define the frequencies and parameters of your sound.
  2. Session Builder: Where you organize, sequence, and mix your tracks.
  3. Sticky Player: The persistent bar at the bottom that keeps your audio playing as you browse.

1. Main Controls: The Foundation

This section allows you to set the fundamental properties of the sound you are currently hearing or preparing to add to a session.

  • Generation Mode: Choose Binaural Beats (requires stereo headphones), Isochronic Tones (works with speakers), or EMDR Bilateral (requires stereo headphones for alternating left/right stimulation).
  • Presets: The quickest way to start. Select a state (e.g., "Deep Sleep", "Super Focus") and the generator automatically sets the optimal Beat and Carrier frequencies.
  • Beat Frequency (Hz): The target frequency for your brainwaves. For example, 10 Hz induces Alpha relaxation, while 40 Hz triggers Gamma peak focus. For EMDR, use low frequencies (0.3-2 Hz) for therapeutic bilateral stimulation.
  • Carrier Frequency (Hz): The pitch of the tone. Lower carriers (e.g., 100 Hz) feel grounding; higher ones feel more ethereal. This setting is not available in EMDR mode.
  • Background Noise: Add "Pink Noise", "Rain", or other ambient sounds to mask distractions.

2. The Sticky Player & Visualizer

We have moved the visualization and playback controls to a Sticky Player anchored to the bottom of your screen.

  • Continuous Playback: You can now navigate to other pages—to read this guide or browse presets—without stopping your session.
  • Visual Feedback: The integrated mini-visualizer confirms the generator is active and lets you "see" the frequency oscillation.
  • Global Control: Pause, play, or adjust the master volume from anywhere on the site.

3. The Session Builder: Create Mixed Soundscapes

The Session Builder is the heart of the new experience. It allows you to chain tracks together (Sequential) or play them at the same time (Mixed).

Adding Tracks

To build a session, simply configure a sound in the Main Controls and click "Add Track". The track will appear in your session list.

Sequential vs. Mixed Playback

By default, tracks added to the list play Sequentially (one after another). This is perfect for creating a guided progression, such as a 20-minute session that starts in Beta (focus) and gradually descends to Theta (meditation).

How to Create a Mixed Session (Layering):

Want to play multiple tones at once? You can now layer tracks to create rich, harmonic chords.

  1. Add multiple tracks to your session list using the "Add Track" button.
  2. Check the selection box next to the tracks you want to combine.
  3. Click the "Mix Selected" button.

The selected tracks will be grouped into a "Mixed Tracks" card and will play simultaneously. You can even combine single tracks and mixed groups in the same timeline!

Individual Volume Control

Every track in the Session Builder—whether standing alone or inside a mix—has its own Volume Slider. This is crucial for mixing: you can keep your primary entrainment frequency loud while fading in a secondary harmonic tone at a lower volume for a subtle, sophisticated effect.

Track Settings: Frequency & Volume Ramps

Take your sessions to the next level with frequency and volume ramps. Ramps allow you to smoothly transition frequencies and volume over time, creating dynamic audio experiences that guide you through different mental states.

Accessing Track Settings

Each track in the Session Builder has a ⚙️ settings button. Click this button to open the Track Settings Modal where you can configure ramps and other track parameters.

Beat Frequency Ramp

The Beat Frequency Ramp gradually changes the brainwave entrainment frequency from a Start value to an End value over the track's duration. This is perfect for creating smooth transitions between different mental states.

Example Use Case: Create a 20-minute track that starts at 20 Hz (Beta focus) and gradually ramps down to 10 Hz (Alpha relaxation). This guides you from an alert state into a relaxed, meditative state without any jarring changes.

Range: 0-100 Hz (or 0.1-3.0 Hz for bilateral mode)

Carrier Frequency Ramp

The Carrier Frequency Ramp gradually changes the pitch of the tone from a Start value to an End value. Lower carriers (e.g., 100 Hz) feel more grounding, while higher carriers feel more ethereal.

Example Use Case: Start with a grounding 100 Hz carrier and ramp up to 432 Hz (a frequency often associated with healing and harmony) to create an uplifting experience.

Range: 20-2000 Hz | Note: Not available for bilateral mode

Volume Ramp

The Volume Ramp gradually changes the volume from a Start value to an End value. This is ideal for smooth fade-ins and fade-outs.

Example Use Case: Set a volume ramp from 0% to 80% for a gentle fade-in at the start of a track, or from 80% to 0% for a smooth fade-out at the end.

Range: 0-100%

Combining Multiple Ramps

You can enable multiple ramps on the same track for complex transitions. For example, you could simultaneously ramp the beat frequency from 20 Hz to 10 Hz, the carrier from 100 Hz to 200 Hz, and the volume from 50% to 80%—all within a single track!

Important: Duration Required

Ramps require a duration greater than 0 to work. If you enable ramps but don't set a duration, you'll see a warning message. Set your track duration in the Track Settings Modal to ensure ramps function correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between binaural beats, isochronic tones, and EMDR bilateral tones?
Binaural beats require stereo headphones and work by playing two different frequencies in each ear, creating a third beat in the brain. Isochronic tones use a single tone that pulses at a specific frequency and can work with speakers. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) bilateral tones alternate between left and right ears at low frequencies (0.3-2 Hz) to simulate the bilateral stimulation used in EMDR therapy.
How do I create a mixed session in the generator?
To create a mixed session, add multiple tracks to your session list using the 'Add Track' button. Check the selection box next to the tracks you want to combine, then click the 'Mix Selected' button. The selected tracks will be grouped into a 'Mixed Tracks' card and will play simultaneously. You can even combine single tracks and mixed groups in the same timeline.
What is the sticky player and how does it work?
The sticky player is a persistent bar anchored to the bottom of your screen that keeps your audio playing as you browse. It allows for continuous playback so you can navigate to other pages without stopping your session. It provides visual feedback through an integrated mini-visualizer and gives you global control to pause, play, or adjust master volume from anywhere on the site.
What are sequential and mixed playback modes?
Sequential playback plays tracks one after another, which is perfect for creating a guided progression like a 20-minute session that starts in Beta (focus) and gradually descends to Theta (meditation). Mixed playback allows you to layer tracks to create rich, harmonic chords by playing multiple tones simultaneously. You can use individual volume controls for each track to create the perfect mix.
What frequencies should I use for different purposes?
For relaxation and meditation, use Alpha waves (8-13 Hz) or Theta waves (4-8 Hz). For focus and concentration, use Beta waves (13-30 Hz). For deep sleep, use Delta waves (1-4 Hz). For EMDR therapy, use low frequencies (0.3-2 Hz) for therapeutic bilateral stimulation. The generator includes presets that automatically set optimal frequencies for different states like 'Deep Sleep' or 'Super Focus'.
What are frequency ramps and how do they work?
Frequency ramps allow you to smoothly transition the beat frequency or carrier frequency from a start value to an end value over the track's duration. For example, you could create a track that starts at 20 Hz (Beta focus) and gradually ramps down to 10 Hz (Alpha relaxation) over 20 minutes, guiding you through a smooth transition between mental states.
Can I use multiple ramps on the same track?
Yes! You can enable beat frequency ramp, carrier frequency ramp, and volume ramp simultaneously on the same track. This allows for complex, multi-dimensional transitions. For example, you could ramp the beat frequency down while ramping the carrier frequency up, creating a unique audio experience that evolves in multiple ways.
Do ramps work with all generation modes?
Beat frequency ramps work with all modes (Binaural Beats, Isochronic Tones, and EMDR Bilateral). Carrier frequency ramps work with Binaural Beats and Isochronic Tones, but not with EMDR Bilateral mode. Volume ramps work with all modes.
